Music – Medicine for the Soul?
Sometimes you may find yourself in the right place at the right time when the sound of music hits you, and I don't mean the musical with Julie Andrews singing!
It could be a specific beat, melody, lyrics, a specific instrument or hey the whole damn thing! Does it uplift, does it resonate with you in some way that is difficult to describe? Does it comfort you, motivate you or arouse your sense of curiosity. Does it take you back in time to happy memories or conversely bring back times you would rather not remember?
It is certainly true that it can be an extremely powerful trigger of a whole range of human emotions from joy and happiness to reaching for the “OFF/NEXT” button when it's evoking negative emotions. However, can you create your own positivity playlist for those times when you feel you need a little pick me up to keep moving, or a soothing playlist perhaps before bed to help with your sleep routine.
During the covid-19 pandemic, so many musicians have been putting their energy into online performances and other collaborations in an attempt to keep people's spirits lifted during these unprecedented times. So why not explore Youtube or some of the music streaming services and see if you can create your own positivity playlist?
Imagine combining this with a walk in nature, some time alone with a cuppa or consciously break your own routine to allow the music to be your own medicine for the soul.
